Transition Town Totnes and Cosy Devon Project – save energy, keep the town warm AND help TTT financially!

We already have volunteers visiting homes in Totnes and Dartington so if you can spare a few hours and would like to get involved contact Mary Popham on 07815 799996 or email marypopham@btinternet.com.

Details are available below or follow the link:

TTT Referral Code is SH023

Why is the Cosy Devon an exciting opportunity? By working in partnership with Cosy Devon we can encourage insulation and energy efficiency measures while simultaneously earning a fee for every completed ‘priority’ insulation measure.Loft insulation 2

Cosy Devon is a partnership of the ten local authorities in Devon, with other key partners being Energy Action Devon, E.ON (Yes, I know, but we are just going to be taking their money!), Devon County Council and numerous other organizations. The project will encourage and support householders to access grants and discounts for insulation and heating measures with free advice tailored to each home. ‘Priority’ households are entitled to free loft and cavity wall insulation and TTT, by registering as a local partner, earns a fee of £15 (£30 if the householder has both loft and cavity wall insulation) for every ‘priority’ householder we refer. ‘Priority’ refers to people aged 70 and over or receiving any one of a long list of benefits – see below.

What can you do?

Help us identify priority households in need of insulation. It could even be yourself! All the householder has to do is complete a very simple referral card that is available from the TTT office and send it Freepost to Cosy Devon. The project will be advertised on television, radio and in the local papers so people may already have heard of it.

Energy Action Devon estimate that around 30% of households in Devon will qualify for free loft and cavity wall insulation. Even households with some loft insulation are likely to qualify for a ‘top-up’.

Priority households are homes where someone is 70 or over or receiving one of the following benefits:

· Council Tax Benefit

· Housing Benefit

· Income Support

· Attendance Allowance

· State Pension Credit

· Working Tax Credit (where relevant income is £15,592 or less)

· Income based job seekers allowance

· Disability living allowance

· War Disablement pension (which includes either a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance)

· Disablement pension (which includes constant attendance allowance)

· Child Tax Credit (where the relevant income is £15,592 or less)

If you know someone who fits this category help them and TTT by telling them about Cosy Devon and offering them a referral card completed with the TTT Referral code (SH023). We can also refer people by telephone or email if we have their name, address with postcode and telephone number.

Future Projects.

We’d like to use the fees we earn to employ people to visit all households in Totnes and surrounding areas to encourage insulation measures for all households. There are large discounts and grants available for all and especially those over 60 even if they are not in receipt of any benefits.

Outcomes.

· Reduction of the carbon footprint and fossil fuel use for the area

· Helping households suffering from ‘fuel poverty’.

· Opportunity to mention TTT to every household in the town alongside the provision of free or discounted insulation

· Possibility of excess income for other TTT projects
