Building Project Capacity

Have you got a great idea for a TTT project, or do  you already have one underway? Do you need some help with organising  your project, or finding the money, people or equipment to help make it happen?

This section of the website explains what support can be offered to TTT projects, and will provide a range of things to help manage and deliver projects of all shapes and sizes.

Background

We have been awarded some funding by the Polden-Puckham Foundation to help ensure that TTT projects succeed, and that any resources and learnings developed in Totnes are shared with the wider Transition Network. We will apply this funding:

  • to provide a level of strategic project co-ordination and communication across all TTT projects - to share what we learn, to make sure the really critical ones turn out ok.
  • to establish processes, resources and a training programme that will help provide the skills needed to succesfully set up and run projects e.g. planning what needs to be done, setting a realistic scope, recruiting and manage volunteers, getting funding, running a budgeting, communication, resolving conflict in the project team etc.
  • to research new and innovative ways to deliver projects in the community, and to help make them sustainable both financially and volunteer/commitment wise.

We have a total of about 80 days of paid resource to do this work - and so far we have about 20 projects already on the go. This number will increase as the Energy Descent Pathways project really gets underway from Summer 2009. So we aim to provide a number of generic 'self-service' resources and a range of training courses as well as more in depth support for some of the more strategic projects.

What do I do with my project idea?

At the moment, most TTT projects come through the theme groups. If you have an idea for a project then please contact the relevant group ASAP (their contact details are easily found in their own web pages) and discuss it with them. If you're not sure who to contact, just call the office and they can point you in the right direction, or email us at projects.totnes@transitionnetwork.org.

What is a TTT project?

We think that there are certain criteria that a project should meet if it wants to come into the TTT fold or be 'branded' as a TTT project, such as promoting both carbon reduction and resilience building, or being social enterprise rather than private commercial etc.  Please click here to see more about our current project definition.

What resources are available to help me now?

Update on Building Personal Resilience - a new training course to support us as individuals in our work for TTT .

Update on Weaving Magic - a new training course to help groups and project teams work effectively.

What's going on at the moment?

We are currrently developing and piloting the first 2 training  offerings. See link above for more information.

We are also producing a visual overview of all the TTT projects. This will take up a wall in the meeting room at the office, and we will also put an online version on the website here. This will be expanded to include other non-TTT projects that are going on in the community.

The other piece of work now underway is defining then building the wider training programme to include things like putting on good public events, effective fund-raising and so on.
