Local Government Group Homepage
Aims & Objectives
This group works with our local government – the Town Council, South Hams District Council and Devon County Council – to support and encourage them to consider climate
Our approach is firstly to understand which council is responsible for which issue, then secondly, to build relationships with the people involved, both councillors & officers. It is an essential part of our strategy to raise awareness of alternative responses to peak oil and climate change issues, other than 'business as usual'.
In order to be able to work together on solutions that meet both our aims we also need to understand some of the nuts & bolts of their job, and the constraints imposed on them by
One of the ways we have started to build these working relationship is through two World Café (see below) events, each arranged around a particular issue. In 2007 it was peak oil and climate change. In 2008 it was sustainable, affordable housing. A write-up will be made available here soon.
A related project that is being run by the TTT Building & Housing Group has formulated a formal reponse to South Ham District Council's 'Totnes & Dartington Development Plan Document'. Please click here for more information about this project.
