Co-creating Earth-based Community -- Using earth-based awareness and process oriented skills to facilitate conflict, power, rank and diversity for the wellbeing and resilience of groups and communities in Transition -- with Gary Reiss PhD (hosted by Apricot Centre)
Bowden House, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 7PW
Process Work (Dr Arnold Mindell) now emphasises Earth-based awareness work for working on social and ecological issues. This approach to social and environmental problems helps us to move beyond traditional polarisations, bringing us in touch with a place of Deep Democracy from which complex difficulties can be addressed. Process Work brings together the outerwork of social activism with the innerwork of psychology and meditation, grounding it in our connection with the sentient earth. An aim might be ‘how to be at home within ourselves while finding home and community on the earth’.
A seminar for those interested in ‘resilient community’ & the interface between Process Work and the Transition Movement; wanting to discover a sense of ‘home’ (ecos) while seeking sustainable change and solutions.
With complex social and ecological problems there is often a tendency to marginalise both; aspects of our inner diversity and the outer diversity of the situation.
- Can we make the needed societal changes without repeating the damage to each other and the environment in the process?
- What deeper skills and attitudes can help how we relate to one another in our families and communities?
- How can we deal with the complexities which arise when groups with different levels of privileges interact trying to make changes?
A weekend mixing theory, experiential skill-based exercises, group process, and the sharing and reflection on experiences. There will be opportunities to explore application to ‘real’ relationship, group or community issues as part of the workshop.
The seminar will be preceded by 2 weeks of online presentation and discussion of Process Work theory open to all participants held by Diploma holders and advanced Process Work Students. This will be an opportunity to ground yourself in some basic PW ideas before attending the course, and online access will be made available after registration.

We would like to announce the launch of Vegswap. This is a website which enables gardeners to swap their surplus home grown or homemade produce with other local users. The website is free and simple to use. Unlike other forum style sites www.vegswap.co.uk
allows you to search for specific produce you may want in a specific location making the whole process quick and easy. Alternatively you can post a list of things you have a glut of and wait for someone to make you an offer.
I am a mother of two young girls so am very aware of the benefits of feeding them the freshest fruit and vegetables available and of getting them involved in gardening and preparing the food we produce. Although I am a keen gardener I am fairly inexperienced and regularly find that certain crops fail whilst others thrive with little or no help from me. But last summer I became frustrated that my apples were rotting on the ground because I didn’t have the time to collect or prepare them for freezing or juicing and that we had more rhubarb than a family of four could possibly eat. Meanwhile I was drooling covetously over my neighbours’ squash which I somehow do not seem able to grow. And that was how the idea of Vegswap came about.
Please take a look. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me by phone on the number below or by email on susan@vegswap.co.uk.
Best wishes

Increasing soil fertility is a
major component of what we do, for which we need as much compost as we
can make. We will be building more compost bins from palettes, wood and
wire, for those who enjoy banging and sawing. The communal kitchen
bender will have a roof made of hazel poles covered in tarpaulin. This
will be a good time to walk through the woods, cut the hazel poles and
carry them back. An opportunity to learn about bender building and
hazel coppicing.
