Climate Camp Against Kingsnorth.

Energy company, e.on, are planning to build a massive new coal burning power station at Kingsnorth in Kent. If the government gives approval for this development it will produce as much CO2 as Ghana and skuttle any chances of reaching even the government's limited plans to cut carbon emissions and limit climate change. It could also give a disastrous green light for a whole new generation of coal fired power stations.

Allotments Open Day

Saturday August 16th 10am - 4pm. As part of National Allotments Week, Castle Meadows Allotments in Totnes are holding an Open Day. Westcountry TV will be featuring the event as part of a programme highlighting the dearth of allotments in Devon.

Totnes Nuts Lead the Way for National Tree Week
Three-year old Izzy Grace’s smiles and giggles of delight as she planted her first hazel tree said it all. As she joined mum, dad, and nearly thirty other volunteers and young people in Bridgetown, everyone was excited about the initiative to turn Totnes into the Nut Capital of Britain.

Energy Descent Pathways project

TTT’s Energy Descent Pathways project has begun. Over the next 12 months, this project will develop an Energy Descent Action Plan (EDAP) for Totnes which explores the different likely routes or pathways we can take as we reduce our use and dependence on fossil fuels and prepare for the effects of climate change from 2009 - 2030.

Ways With Words

BBC journalists, politicians, authors and artists arrived in style at Dartington’s Ways with Words festival courtesy of The Totnes Rickshaw Company.
Martin Bell, the author and one time television reporter-turned-politician, arrived at Totnes Railway station on Friday 11th July to headline the event. There to pick him up from the station was the latest in alternative Totnes’ environmentally friendly transport – a motorized rickshaw powered by locally used cooking oil.

Future Scenarios allow us to think beyond our usual constraints. We can indulge ourselves with a peek at the future through a kaleidoscope of different routes which over 20+ years could result in very different outcomes. There are many variables to consider; loosely grouped the Totnes Town scenarios we could find ourselves in 2030 could be:

*Business as usual: Peak Oil Gloom.
*Enlightened Transition: Resilient Communities.
*Hitting the Wall: Climate Change Catastrophe.
*The Impossible Dream: Techno-fix.

Growing a Transition Business (including making money for TTT projects) - event write-up

We had a total of 15 people at this workshop, and we spent a very enjoyable 3 hours coming up with ideas for how some TTT projects could start to generate income that will keep them sustainable, rather than rely solely on external funding or the goodwill and free time of volunteers. This is moving from 'asking' to 'earning'.
