October 2008 Newsletter
Dear Education Group Supporters & Transition Tales Devotees!
For those of you who haven't heard from us in a while, just to let you know that the Education Group as it was is no longer functioning but many of us are now active, along with some wonderful new members, in the Transition Tales schools project.
Welcome to the first of our monthly updates.
It's been an exciting few months for Transition Tales. We've held a number of events throughout September and October and interest in the project is growing both locally and further afield.
- We were recently invited to deliver workshops at the Eden Project's Climate Change Conference for 200 Cornish 16-18 year olds. Six volunteers from the Transition Tales team attended the conference. We used a game, developed by team members, to explore the journey to the year 2030 and how during that time we can overcome obstacles faced as a result of peak oil and climate change through being creative together
- Sessions with KEVICC school went down a storm and we've been invited to return this year for more. And fingers crossed, we'll work with each group over six sessions – twice as many as last year!
- The films that KEVICC students created have been expertly edited into news clips from the year 2030 and have been shown on two separate occasions at KEVICC school - at an evening of storytelling with Ashley Ramsden, and at a viewing for parents, students and teachers.
What's next
There's lots more coming up:
- We're currently developing the sessions that we hope to run at KEVICC school in the new year
- We hope to expand the project into new schools and possibly into offering teacher training and training for other transition groups
- We are exploring funding for future ventures
- We are developing the Quest game trialled at the Eden Project and may be holding a Quest Game open night for the public as one of TTT Jan-March 09 programme
- We will be presenting at the Buckfast Abbey conference on 13th November.
How you can get involved
We look forward to seeing more people getting involved in the Transition Tales project. The more people, the more heads, the more creativity, the more the project can flourish!
Our next meeting is at 7pm on Friday 24th October at the TTT offices, where we will be brainstorming our next moves.
To find out more and to get involved contact Steph Bradley, current Transition Tales facilitator, on transitiontales@googlemail.com, call 01803 849094, and/or come to our meetings.
Specifically, we'd love someone to help us keep on top of the admin but there are also many many others ways to be involved so come join us!
